An 8-month-old boy is brought to ED by his parent as he developed some noisy breathing and cough yesterday, which became worse at night. The parent reports that the baby has had a runny nose for a couple of days and has been reluctant to feeding. The child is up to date with all vaccinations and has no past medical history.
On examination, he has a seal-like barky cough and inspiratory stridor when crying. On auscultation there is an equal air entry and no wheeze; stridor is only audible when baby starts to cry.
Basic observations:
- Hear Rate 150
- Respiratory Rate 40
- Blood Pressure 101/52
- Temperature 37.5
- Oxygen saturation 99%
