A 3-year-old boy is brought to your emergency department (ED) by his mother. She explains he has had a fever and coryzal illness over the last few days and has now developed a painful rash on the left side of his trunk.
On examination he looks well and his observations are unremarkable. The rash appears as maculopapular lesions with associated clusters of vesicles, some of which have ruptured.
His mother tells you he had chickenpox as a neonate but has otherwise been well. He is fully vaccinated.
