Nebulised adrenaline causes a dramatic short term improvement in symptoms but in some patients there is a rebound effect with rapid deterioration.

Those with severe croup or in cases where the child is deteriorating despite treatment, referral to a senior paediatric trained doctor and early consideration of PICU involvement is essential.
