Anorectal Abscesses

Table 1 details the location of anorectal abscesses, how commonly they present in these areas and an overview of patient symptoms.

A significant number of anorectal abscesses will show subtle or little external evidence so a high index of suspicion must be maintained in a patient with buttock or anorectal pain. a CT scan should be obtained.
