The natural history of myocarditis is poorly understood and very variable. It includes disparate outcomes such as early death, development of a dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), and complete resolution of symptoms.
What factors in patients with myocarditis are associated with poorer outcome?
Presentation with heart failure or syncope, and the finding of bundle branch block on the ECG or a reduced ejection fraction on echocardiography are all associated with poor outcome.
