Case 1

An obese 62-year-old man, who has been knocked down by a car, arrives in the ED on a spinal board with c-spine immobilised appropriately. His airway is maintained with an oral airway but he has required frequent suctioning of blood from his oropharynx.

He is tachypnoeic and, despite oxygen via a non-rebreathing mask, has saturations of 93%.
