A 2-year-old female presents to your Emergency Department (ED) after biting into a liquid detergent capsule. When assessed in triage 1 hour earlier the triage nurse had noted that the patient appeared well and was eating and drinking in the department. Initial observations were all within normal ranges for the patient’s age.
A nurse has now asked for advice about the patient. There is currently a 6 hour wait to be seen in the department and the patient’s mother wishes to take the patient home as it is past the patient’s usual bedtime. There have been no concerns raised whilst the patient has been in the waiting room.

Easier said than done irrigating a 2 year olds eye with 1000ml saline for 15 minutes. Tips for this would be useful to include.
