A 22-year-old man injured his foot in a motor cycle crash. The exact mechanism is uncertain. The foot is grossly swollen and very painful. His x-rays are shown (click on the x-rays to enlarge):
Fig 1: X-ray 1 | Fig 2: X-ray 2 |
What do these x-rays show?
The patient's foot is grossly swollen and very painful, but the x-rays are normal.
What are you going to do next?
A CT was requested but could not be done immediately so the patient was given analgesia and crutches and allowed home with advice to elevate his foot.
The CT was performed 4 days later, but you do not expect a full report on a limited series of films. Four slices are shown.
