Confirming a Stress Fracture

The initial x-ray is frequently normal.

Patients with a suspected stress fracture should therefore be treated as for a fracture, even if they have a normal x-ray.

How would you confirm the diagnosis?

To confirm the diagnosis one can do the following:

  • Bone scan
  • MRI
  • Repeat x-rays after 10 days
