Changes of the lips and oral cavity include:
- Erythema, dryness, fissuring, peeling, cracking, and bleeding of the lips
- A “strawberry tongue,” with erythema and prominent fungiform papillae
- Diffuse erythema of the oropharyngeal mucosa.
Oral ulcers and pharyngeal exudates are not consistent with Kawasaki disease and should prompt the consideration of an alternative diagnosis.
