Definition and pathophysiology

Blunt trauma to the scrotum and testicles can be from a number of mechanisms including direct (such as contact sports or kicks from assault) and straddle or handlebar injuries.  There is a spectrum of pathology from haematomas (which may involve the scrotal wall, tunica vaginalis or be subcapsular) to rupture. There can also be disruption to the skin warranting ED wound closure, but likely urological management.
