Investigations

The investigation of any bleeding especially in the context of anti-coagulation medication includes:

• APTT (Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time)
• Prothrombin Time (PT), often as the International Normalised Ratio (INR)
• FBC
• U&Es
• LFTs
• Group & save, or if bleeding significantly cross match
• If Rivaroxaban, Apixaban, Enoxaban, Dabigatran, LMWH or Fondaparinux is taken discuss with a haematologist for specific tests and coagulation assays
