A 40-year-old man is brought to the Emergency Department (ED) after being hit on his right hand side by a car travelling at approximately 20 mph. Examination reveals isolated trauma to the right lower leg but no life-threatening injuries. X-rays of the lower leg confirm a comminuted tibial fracture, however the knee also appears clinically injured and so dedicated knee X-rays are obtained.
